Please also visit the website of the International Union for Circumpolar Health To the organisers, it was a true pleasure to see so many researchers, practitioners, health professionals and many others working with circumpolar health in August 2018 in Copenhagen. This volume of the International Journal of Circumpolar Health (IJCH) contains the abstracts presented at the ICCH17. The conference ended with the General IUCH Assembly where two Board Members were elected from the floor. The Hildes medals were given to the recipients by Dr Hildes’ daughter Elske Hildes-Ripstein. Also, five persons received the Hildes medal and five the Jens Peder Hart Hansen memorial awards. In the summer days of August 12–15, 2018, 397 participants from 13 countries attended 17 plenary talks, gave 205 oral and 74 poster presentations and participated in 17 workshops and 4 Meet-the-Experts sessions. The sport in 2018 was a Tug-of-war competition that Greenland was the proud winner of!įinally, a Summer School of Circumpolar Health and a PhD research course took place immediately after the conference. A new initiative was a range of Meet-the-experts sessions, where participants could meet and discuss with some of the well-known experts in Circumpolar Health.Īt the end of the conference, another new event took place that we hope will become a tradition – namely a sports competition between the nations.
The conference consisted of keynote lectures and presentation of accepted abstracts in oral sessions or poster presentations. The aim of the ICCH17 was to focus on what the future may bring to the health of populations in circumpolar areas, and how the health of populations in these parts of the world may be improved. Arctic areas and populations in Arctic areas are at present going through major changes related to environmental, social and living conditions that all affect health. The overall focus of the ICCH17 conference was “Moving Circumpolar Health Forward”. The organiser behind the congresses is the International Union for Circumpolar Health (IUCH) supported by a local organising committee from the relevant scientific circumpolar society.
